American Legion High School Oratorical Contest
You must have the support of your school to apply. High school personnel must certify their contestants by January 16, 2009. Students can win $3,000, $2,000 or $1,000 scholarship by participating in an an oratorical contest based on the United States Constitution. The main purpose of the National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship. You are eligible to participate if you are a citizen and a lawful resident of Tennessee and are a bona fide student under the age of 20 years on the date of the National Oratorical Contest and are in grades 9 through 12 of a school in Tennessee. Detailed information was mailed to all schools by October 1st. The Department of Tennessee awards $6,000.00 in Oratorical scholarships each year. The state winner competes for another $18,000.00 at the national American Legion level. Burger King Scholars Scholarship
Every year, the BURGER KING® Scholars Program helps graduating high school seniors build brighter futures. The awards ($1,000 each) are sponsored annually by the fundraising efforts of Burger King Corporation, BURGER KING® franchisees, and our restaurant guests in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Awards must be used for educational expenses, such as tuition or required fees and books, and must be used during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Awards are given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin. Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Award
$1,000 - $10,000 awards will be given to girls ages 12 -18 who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship, are taking the first steps toward financial independance and making a difference in their schools and communites. Alumni Association Members Eligible for Scholarships
Students planning to enter the U of M in fall 2009 as first-time, incoming freshmen may apply for the Alumni Association Scholarship. The award is a four-year scholarship worth $1000/year ($500/semester). Family of Alumni Association members who have paid their dues anytime within the calendar year prior to the application deadline are eligible. The scholarship program encourages family of Alumni Association members to make the U of M their first choice for higher education. SunTrust Off To College Sweepstakes
High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2008 through May 15, 2009. Students can begin registering September 15, 2008, and the first drawing will be held on October 31, 2008. It's FREE to enter and eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. Each $1,000 will be payable to the winner's school of attendance. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) has opened the online scholarship application for the 2009 selection process. The School of Arts and School of Engineering at Christian Brothers University invite all high school students to attend a workshop program on "Cryptography: Past and Present" to be held Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 3:30 pm on the CBU campus. This is a repeat of the program held during Spring 2008. This interdisciplinary program will feature presentations by CBU History and Engineering professors and will address the historical significance of ciphers and cipher techniques.
